Science sometimes means lack of sleep. Most of us arrived this morning at the research center between 8 and 9 am, but there are people who worked overnight to prepare for this day (like Eva) and someone else who started before dawn (see Lisa or Tanya)!

I personally started to work at 8 am as part of the sampling team: mixing the water in the mesocosms with a big paddle and learning how to transfer the same water into the plastic bottles avoiding bubbles of air, while it was getting hotter and hotter.

This general sampling from the pools continued for about an hour, before we brought the containers back into van and reached the other scientists in the labs. From that moment the “music” of filtration pumps, ultrasonic waves and glass containers started to fill the air. As in every new start, there are things to learn and technical problems, but in a friendly environment like this they are overcome much more easily.

Well, tomorrow I will be again in the sampling team, so takeaway breakfast from the hotel!
